Google launches programme for startups to bring AI into public infrastructure

Google announced a programme for startups to integrate AI into public systemsGoogle has announced a new programme for startups aimed at introducing artificial intelligence into the public sector. The programme, called the Google Academy of Artificial Intelligence for Startups: American Infrastructure, was launched on Wednesday. It will offer participants intensive training from artificial intelligence experts and comprehensive support to startups that solve problems in various industries, such as agriculture, energy, education, public safety, healthcare, telecommunications, transport, and urban development.

For 12 weeks, the startups will participate in the programme on a non-equity basis, studying an artificial intelligence curriculum developed by the Google People + AI Research (PAIR) team. They will also take part in in-depth workshops on sales and go-to-market strategies. In addition, participants will have access to industry connections and Google's AI tools.

Graduates of the programme will become part of a community that includes infrastructure-focused startups. Among them are companies such as JustAir, which uses AI to monitor air pollution, Cambio, which decarbonises commercial real estate, and Sensagrate, which works to reduce road traffic fatalities.

Google plans to select startups that use AI to improve efficiency and solve problems in various industries. These include not only the above-mentioned industries, but also such areas as disaster prevention, environmental protection and sustainable development, smart manufacturing and logistics, water management, workforce development, and economic opportunities.

Applications for participation in the programme are accepted until 17 June. Google emphasises that despite the significant attention paid to companies that create models, tools and interfaces for working with AI, the focus on real-world applications of this technology can have a positive impact on communities at the local, state and national levels. Startups that are not even directly focused on these industries, but are working to improve public services, are also encouraged to apply.

According to Google, this new area will allow for the effective application of artificial intelligence technologies to solve pressing problems in public sectors, contributing to the creation of more efficient and fair public services.
