Podcasts and their role in content marketing

There are two ways to use podcasts in content marketing:

 

Start your own podcast;

 

Give an interview to someone else's podcast.

 

It's great to build your brand and audience by starting your own podcast, but it can take a very long time to develop.

 

Before you dive headfirst into creating your own podcast, why not appear on a few others first and decide if you like the format? With over one million podcasts out there today, there are plenty of interview opportunities for you.

 

Find Podcast Opportunities

 

The easiest way to do this is using Google. Just search for the best podcasts in [your niche] and you'll get a ton of selections.

 

Still, some of these podcasts will be large-scale. If you're new to podcasts, it's unlikely that your first podcast will be anything like the popular show The Joe Rogan Experience.

 

So your best bet is to identify someone of similar caliber to you in your industry who has already been a guest on multiple podcasts. For example, Laura Reder, founder of MeetEdgar, is one such representative of our industry who has appeared on many podcasts.

 

Offer yourself as a guest

 

Once you've identified which podcasts you'd like to appear on, the next step is to offer yourself as a guest.

 

But before you contact the owner, be sure to listen to a few episodes of the podcast. Not only will this help you write a more personalized letter, but you'll also be able to suggest some talking points based on the latest episodes.
